These restrictions arise because the factory inlet is usually designed with sharp bends and narrow passages to fit tight engine bay packaging rather than optimize airflow. The APR turbo inlet saves the day by minimizing bends and maximizing flow.”

It introduces a complete turbo system upgrade, paired with the appropriate supporting hardware and software calibrations. “Depending on the application,” says Gibbs, “we use either a bespoke APR turbo or a Garrett PowerMax turbo. In all applications these turbos are intended to be ‘drop-in’, configured to fit with all of the factory plumbing and control systems. This provides the customer with a leap in performance, without the headaches and expense of a custom kit requiring hours of fabrication and tuning. Turbo performance is achieved by optimizing compressor and turbine wheel sizes and geometry to shift the turbo map toward performance without completely sacrificing everyday drivability or engine protections. Bearing systems are also optimized to increase performance by moving to a dual ceramic ball bearing or improved journal bearing. Finally, as almost all turbos today have integrated manifolds, the ‘turbofold’ is improved for better flow. Our Turbo Pack packages combine all of the necessary items to fully unlock the performance of these upgraded turbos to ensure performance, engine safety, and daily reliability. Additionally, because these turbos mount to the factory catalysts, emissions compliance has been maintained.”
